Managed Learning Program (MLP)

The aim of the course is to ensure the candidate has the relevant basic underpinning gas safety knowledge and practical ability to work safely in the gas industry. The Managed Learning Program (MLP) has been recognised by GAS SAFE as meeting their entry requirements to the ACS scheme, which is the pre-requisite competence qualification required for GAS SAFE registration.

Pre-Requisite

This course has been developed for candidates that have no experience or are level 2 qualified plumbers.

Course Duration

Dependent on prior knowledge and experience; will determined by initial interview. The course will be divided between In-Centre training and on-site training (Company).

Training Aids

Course notes, audio visual presentation and a range of domestic gas appliances, models, practical scenarios and MLP Candidate Training Pack.

Assessment

Ongoing assessments throughout the course leading to a summative assessment.

Certification

On successful completion of the course candidates will receive a LCL Awards Certificate of Training/Attendance will be issued.

Additional Information

Candidates will be required to carry out a pre-course technical interview/assessment to determine whether or not they have the appropriate background to attend this course.

Characteristics of combustion, CO detectors and combustion performance analysis

Installation of pipework and fittings

Tightness testing and purging

Checking and/or setting meter regulators

Identifications of unsafe situations

The operation of and positioning of emergency isolation controls and valves

Emergency notices and warning labels

Checking and setting appliance burner pressures and gas rates

The operation and checking of appliance gas safety devices and controls

Flueing/chimney standards

Flue/chimney testing

Installation of open, balanced and fan assisted flue/chimney assemblies

Re-establish existing gas supply and relight appliances
